Title: BUG: ImpulseMP3 component hangs under Windows XP and Windows 2000 SP4.
Article:
Q2004011000

Applies To:

* ImpulseStudio 3.0

Problem:

The ImpulseMP3 component will hang or crash while playing back, or when being stopped. This occurs under Windows XP (any edition) and also under Windows 2000 if Service Pack 4 is installed.

Cause:

The ImpulseMP3 was created and finalized long before the release of Windows XP or W2K SP4, and as such, the changes to the Windows environment at the Operating System level that resulted in incompatibilities with version 3.0 of the ImpulseMP3 component could not have been anticipated. (Many other multimedia applications from many different developers/vendors also had compatibility issues with Windows XP.)

Resolution:

The ImpulseMP3 component is being completely redesigned for version 4.0, and will support decoding MP3 streams (as well as other stream types) to DirectX’s DirectSound wave buffers. This will allow the component to be compatible with all current versions of Windows, and will ensure compatibiliity with any future versions of Windows, inasmuch as possible.
